Army continues rescue operation in parts of Sindh

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Army is busy in rescue operations at Sajwal, Shahdad Kot, Almo Kot and has employed five helicopters and a number of boats to shift the people to safer places. According to ISPR update issued on Thursday on operation Labaik, a special rescue operation was conducted to save lives of a 26-member family at Gari Khero in Sindh, who had been trapped in flood water for five days. Later, the family was transported to a rescue camp.

Worst floods in a decade hit China

BEIJING: The worst floods in a decade have left 991 dead and 558 missing in China since the beginning of the year and caused more than 28 billion dollars in damage. The death toll from floods sweeping through northeastern China has risen to 37, state media said Saturday, as authorities scrambled to intercept 12 heavy vessels hurtling down a major waterway.

LAHORE: The strike and protests by various political and religious parties are underway across the national frontiers against the suicide attacks at Data Darbar, Geo News reported Saturday. Hyderabad is witnessing complete strike with markets shut and black flags hoisted on roads and crossroads on the call by the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) against the suicide blasts at Data Darbar, Lahore, on Thursday. Larkana is under partial strike with black flags waving on some points of the city.

Low intensity blast near Bin Qasim railway station

KARACHI: A low intensity blast has occurred near Port Qasim railway station but it caused no damage to the railway tracks, police sources said here on Friday. All the trains bound for up country have been stopped as the police defused the second bomb recovered near the railway tracks in Bin Qasim area, sources told Geo News

Heavy rains lash Karachi, 9 dead

KARACHI: Karachi received the first heavy spell of rain on Saturday night and in afternoon due to tropical cyclone PHET, while the next spell is expected to hit later in the evening. At least nine people including two women died due to rain related incidents mostly due to electrocution.

Pakistan to get $500 mln from ADB for railways’ revival

ISLAMABAD: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) will grant a loan of $500 million to Pakistan for revival of its Railways department. The loan, to be provided under the Railway Investment Development Plan of the government, is aimed at turning the flailing department into a profitable one. Officials said the first installment of $120 million will be released next year while the remaining loan will be delivered in two installments until 2013
