CNG association baulks at Sui Northern orders

LAHORE: All Pakistan CNG Association declined to accept the schedule of gas load shedding in Punjab, Geo News reported Tuesday. Talking to Geo News, All Pakistan CNG Association’s central chairman Ghayas Abdullah Pracha said Sui Northern disconnected the gas supply to the entire Punjab province including Lahore, leading to the closure of 20 percent CNG stations in the province. Ghayas said severe flood situation has contributed to the unavailability of the petrol in the southern Punjab; under the circumstances, the Association did not acknowledge the orders of Sui Northern.

Five NATO troops killed in Afghan south

KABUL: Five NATO troops have been killed in Afghanistan’’s insurgency-hit south, the coalition force said Sunday. One soldier was killed by a homemade bomb and two others died following an insurgent attack on Saturday, said a statement from NATO’’s International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) without giving further details.

KUT: Two near-simultaneous car bombs in the southern Iraqi city of Kut on Tuesday killed 30 people and wounded 80, a medical official said, giving a new toll. The blasts struck the commercial centre of Kut, 160 kilometres (100 miles) south of Baghdad and capital of Wasit province, at around 6:00 pm (1500 GMT), a police sergeant said, speaking on condition of anonymity. Tuesday’’s attack comes a day after President Barack Obama pledged that the United States will end its combat mission in Iraq as scheduled on August 31 despite a recent flare-up in violence
